Rockefeller University Research Assistant in New York, New York
Job Title Research Assistant
Employment Status Full Time
Laboratory / Department Molecular Immunology
We pursue a combination of biochemical, molecular and genetic approaches to define the checkpoints that regulate B cell development, antibody production and B cell tolerance. A second area of interest is in dendritic cells. Our interests range from the earliest phases of the B cell pathway, including the commitment to becoming a B cell through the completion of maturation. Our ongoing work includes a focus on mechanisms of V(D)J recombination, somatic mutation, isotype switching, allelic exclusion and tolerance.
The Research Assistant will work with human blood samples and PBMC processing, collection and storage. Responsibilities include antibody and protein production, purification, and preparation for experiments exploring broadly neutralizing antibodies against HIV-1, DNA (mini-, midi-, and maxi-) preparation and analysis, human tissue cell culture maintenance, transfection and harvest, gravity column antibody purification, HIV-1 envelope protein purification and analysis, buffer-exchange, concentration, LPS-removal, sterilization and storage.
Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biology or chemistry preferred. Previous lab experience desired. Must be a hard worker with good organizational skills, detail-oriented and have a knowledge of basic lab and sterile techniques. Must be a team-player who can work independently and perform repetitive tasks with accuracy and precision.
