Detailed Description

The Administrative Assistant will support cutting-edge scientific research in the Laboratory of the Neurogenetics of Language and the Vertebrate Genome Laboratory. Responsibilities will include coordinating shipments of materials, producing and resolving invoices, coordinating samples for the Vertebrate Genomes Project, ordering laboratory and office supplies, and effectively communicating sensitive information in a professional manner. The Administrative Assistant will act as the Vertebrate Genome Project's liaison to the rest of the university and the scientific community. Will perform miscellaneous administrative duties as required.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree required. Must be able to maintain a high level of accuracy and have excellent organizational, time management, and decision-making skills. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel are necessary; familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and graphics suites preferred. Must be resourceful in seeking out solutions and willing to acquire new skills. Must have the ability to prepare correspondence and complex reports in a style that is appropriate to the needs of the recipient. Must be able to meet deadlines, maintain appropriate confidentiality, and work independently and collaboratively on a team, and build trust and lead teams as necessary. Must have the ability to learn tasks independently, apply experience to develop new techniques, and to retain information associated with tasks. Must actively seek opportunities to increase skills, expertise, efficiency and effectiveness in the job, and remain technically and administratively current in job. Strong analytical skills, good judgment, and the ability to use critical thinking required. Must be able to manage a variety of responsibilities at once, remain flexible, handle a variety of changing priorities, and assist others as needed. Exceptional customer service skills, a cooperative attitude, and a positive demeanor a must. Must be able to understand the role in the work unit and in related units, as well as how the job relates to the organization as a whole.
