Department Description

The Development Program provides in excess of $50 million in private support annually toward the mission of The Rockefeller University, which is to improve the understanding of life for the benefit of humanity. Working with the Board of Trustees and volunteer groups including The Rockefeller University Council, the Committee on Trust and Estate Plans, and the Women and Science and Parents and Science Initiatives, the Development Office oversees all private fund-raising at the University, including annual, capital, and endowment campaigns.

Detailed Description

Under the Supervision of the Senior Director of Planned Giving, the Associate Director will assist in managing and expanding the University's Planned Giving Program through the cultivation and stewardship of prospective and current planned gift donors and the preparation of related material. Will need a firm knowledge of planned giving vehicles (e.g., bequests, charitable trusts, in-kind gifts, etc.) and an understanding of complex gift transactions, like contributions of privately held stocks, partnership interest, and cryptocurrency. The Associate Director will oversee and coordinate stock, and wire transfers, handle highlighting major planned gifts to the University, and writing and production of Living Legacies. Will be responsible for participating in identifying and cultivating prospective Committee members, conducting one-on-one meetings with current members, and implementing strategies to activate committee members as volunteers. The Associate Director will prepare proposals, reports, and correspondence for individuals, trusts, and foundations associated with the Committee, as well as plan and manage events co-sponsored by the committee. Additionally, a major focus of this position is broadening membership in the University's Committee on Trust & Estate Gift Plans.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree strongly preferred. At least five years of experience in Development, with an emphasis on donor and volunteer cultivation/stewardship, especially related to planned gifts and/or major gift prospects, and fundamental sound knowledge of Planned Giving vehicles. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to plan and prepare for projects well in advance. Must have the capacity to function effectively as part of a collegial, fast-paced office noted for its atmosphere of collaboration.
