Rockefeller University CBC Group Leader | Comparative Bioscience Center in New York, New York

Organization Overview

The Comparative Bioscience Center provides a comprehensive program of animal care in support of the University's in vivo research. The goal of our staff is to provide investigators with the highest level of research support at the lowest cost while ensuring the welfare of the animals used in the research. The center is fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).

Overview

The Group Leader is responsible for the direct oversight of five to six animal Husbandry Technicians and their assigned rooms. The Group Leader will monitor work activities and make adjustments as needed. The Husbandry Group Leader has regularly scheduled rooms to maintain.

Responsibilities

The Group Leader's responsibilities include the following:

  • Daily animals care including general health observations, cage changing, room sanitation, provision of food and water

  • Maintaneancing of animals records

  • Maintaining consumable supplies as needed by the technicians, and investigators

  • Monitoring the physical plant for deficiencies

  • Training all new employees, and reinforcing standard operating procedures with all employees as needed

  • Resolving conflicts between technicians, and investigator

  • Order job duties will be assigned as needed

Qualifications

A High School diploma and a minimum certification at the ALAT level are required. Additional physical requirements include, but are not limited to, ability to push/pull carts on weight-bearing wheels weighing a minimum of 500 lbs, lift supplies that can weigh up to 50 lbs, and tolerate a significant amount of standing, bending, and walking. Must not be allergic to animals, waste products, and or bedding. Requirements are subject to change as a result of facility needs.
