Rockefeller University provides a variety of housing accommodations in support of the scientific needs of the University. Apartments and dormitories are available to full-time faculty and students, and hotel accommodations are available for faculty and guests of the Rockefeller community. The Housing Department provides a safe, secure, affordable residence that is conveniently located near the campus. Most of the University's apartments are located in full-service apartment buildings, with door staff and a variety of amenities. A few smaller apartment buildings are located within a short walking distance from campus. Dormitories and guest accommodations are located on the main campus. The Rockefeller campus is located on the Upper East Side, one of New York's most desirable residential neighborhoods. The 45-person housing staff consists of a group of mechanics, porters, housekeepers, and doorpersons, a superintendent for each building, and an office staff to address administrative needs.
Under the supervision of the Lead Doorperson, the Doorperson at the Front Desk will serve as the communication and security center for the residential building complex with 500 residences and 30 hotel rooms. Will ensure the safety and security of all persons and property in the building complex by following all security procedures, controlling access to the building at all entrances through physical and/or electronic monitoring, maintaining desk logs, and patrolling the building complex as scheduled. Will provide appropriate response and directions during life/safety emergencies and tripped alarms which monitor function of the building's 24 hour mechanical systems, coordinate receipt and transmittal of tenant packages, overnight mail, dry cleaning, and all other deliveries, such as groceries, take-out food, furniture, overnight parcels, and luggage, accept packages, log and sort packages, and notify tenants of deliveries, coordinate verbal and written information among residents, guests, management and employees, vendors, contractors, delivery persons and all other visitors, respond to tenant questions and complaints and instruct tenants and visitors on building rules, maintain a neat and orderly lobby, front desk and package area, install elevator padding and assist moving companies, perform security rounds of the building, and perform snow removal as needed.
High School diploma or equivalent required; college background preferred. Must have a minimum of one year of related work experience and have excellent communication skills, the ability to coordinate multiple tasks at once, and the ability to respond calmly during emergencies and periods of stress. Must have basic computer skills to view and navigate access control database, tenant directory database, and security monitor database. Knowledge of Fire Alarm/Protection systems preferred and FDNY certificate of fitness in sprinkler/standpipe (S-12) and interior fire alarm a plus.
Must be able to walk long distances, climb stairs, run short distances for emergency responses, lift packages up to 50 lbs. and lift and roll out floor mats up to 75 lbs., shovel snow, and perform light cleaning including sweeping, mopping, and, polishing.
