Department Description

The Rockefeller University Press publishes three biomedical research journals: The Journal of Cell Biology, The Journal of Experimental Medicine, and The Journal of General Physiology. We are committed to identifying and publishing the highest quality research. All editorial decisions are made in conjunction with active academic scientists, and peer-review operations and pre-press production functions are carried out at the RUP offices.

Detailed Description

The Executive Editor of the Journal of Experimental Medicine (JEM) will lead a team of professional scientific Editors working in concert with the Journal's team of research-active Editors to ensure the continuing success of this long-established, preeminent Journal in the biomedical sciences. Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief of the RU Press and a member of the RUP leadership team, the Executive Editor will be responsible for the administration of JEM, maintaining a fair peer-review process, selection of all content published in the Journal, writing for, commissioning for, and promoting the Journal, and ensuring JEM's continuing development through attendance at meetings and institutional visits, once safe to travel. The Executive Editor is responsible for tracking and reporting on journal performance, developing and implementing a strategic plan for the Journal, and serving as the Journal's main representative to the scientific community. As a member of the RUP leadership team, the Executive Editor contributes to the advancement of RUP. #INCOR

Job Requirements

A Ph.D. in immunology or relevant fields and a postdoctoral fellowship, experience as an author with a publication record, and a minimum of two years of editorial experience is required. Must possess good analytical skills and sound strategic thinking. Must be collaborative, able to work successfully within team(s), and have the ability to manage and motivate staff. Must demonstrate evidence of good scientific and editorial judgement, and possess excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
