Organization Overview
Our work focuses on several different aspects of molecular virology, biochemical and structural virology, viral pathogenesis, and vaccine development. The laboratory studies animal RNA viruses, including hepatitis C virus (HCV), yellow fever virus (prototype flavivirus), bovine viral diarrhea virus (a pestivirus), and Sindbis virus (a togavirus).
Overview
The Laboratory of Virology and Infectious Disease is seeking applicants to organize and oversee laboratory operations alongside the Administrative Manager.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include
Managing laboratory operations
Supervising scientific staff
Updating and organizing the website and wiki site
Preparing all animal and human protocols
Editing manuscripts and scientific content of grant proposals
Qualifications
Must have:
Bachelor's degree required
PhD or postdoctoral experience in microbiology is a plus
Knowledge of general laboratory equipment and materials and the ability to work independently within a team environment
Excellent organizational, record keeping and verbal and written skills
Superior multitasking ability
Knowledge of molecular biology, virology, cell culture techniques (BSL2 and BSL3)
Outstanding written and spoken English
Facility with computers including web and wiki site modification
Excellent interpersonal skills, and a "can do, get it done" work attitude no matter what it takes
Self-motivated, and energetic with excellent problem solving skills
High attention to detail, common sense and the ability to supervise others
The right candidate will be multi-faceted and have an innate ability to manage priorities and provide support in many areas. Skills and interest in bioinformatics a plus.
