Organization Overview
The Rockefeller University Hospital is funded by the National Institutes of Health and has 20 patient beds for clinical research. The Hospital provides researchers with an opportunity to conduct clinical studies, and offers both normal volunteers and people with diseases under study the opportunity to stay in the hospital and help to contribute to important advances in science. The Hospital has an inpatient unit as well as an outpatient center where prospective patients are screened and many outpatient studies are conducted. The Hospital is staffed 24 hours a day with professional nurses and has nutritional research, social work, procedure suite as well as its own research pharmacy. Overview
The Medical Staff Credentialing Coordinator will be responsible for the credentialing of new applicants to the medical staff of the hospital, and maintenance of credentialing files in compliance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, accrediting and regulatory agencies standards. The coordinator must have a working knowledge of statues and laws pertaining to medical staff credentialing in New York State and National and International Standards. The coordinator is also responsible for the daily operations of the Medical Staff Services Office.
Responsibilities
The Medical Staff Credentialing Coordinator's Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Maintaining the files of all Medical Staff related information, organizing and preparing for committee meetings
Providing administrative support as needed to other Hospital Departments
Initiating credentialing processes for Medical Staff.
Reviewing and analyzing applications for initial appointment, reappointment, and credentialing documents, including clinical education/training, board certification and eligibility, licensure, accreditation, work history, liability insurance, and malpractice claims history
Assessing completeness of information and qualifications relative to established standards
Identifying and flagging adverse information from application materials for the purpose of conducting special follow-up investigations in preparation for Committee/Board review
Maintaining an applicant tracking system for follow-up of unanswered correspondence according to schedules designed to maintain departmental standards for application processing time
Responding to all 2805-K verification query requests
Tracking and maintaining expiring licenses/registrations/health assessments for all credentialed providers
Sending monthly communications to credentialed providers and Clinical Directors related to expiring licenses, registrations, health assessments
Internally auditing, organizing, and maintaining provider files in accordance with established principles of legal documentation and confidentiality
Preparing data reports for various configurations of data, such as provider profiles, pending provider lists, and expired credentials
Identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining credentialing/reappointment reports and or department workflow(s)
Preparing and attending Credentials Committee & MSEC meetings, coordinating agenda, taking minutes and providing administrative support
Qualifications
Three (3) or more years of credentialing experience in a hospital/clinic setting, certified by the National Association of Medical Staff Services as a Certified Professional Credentialing Specialist (CPCS), or planning to seek certification in next 12 months; working knowledge of credentialing standards for NYSDOH and other regulatory credentialing regulations, ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality, excellent computer skills including word processing and data base maintenance (Cactus software a plus). Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated with the ability to complete projects independently. Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and assist other departments when needed.
