Department Description

The Office of Technology Transfer at The Rockefeller University manages and oversees all aspects of commercially relevant intellectual property generated by the University's world class scientific research laboratories. OTT supports the research enterprise at the University through a variety of activities, including scouting for technologies, patenting inventions, finding commercial partners and negotiating transactions with fair and equitable terms, and monitoring post-deal compliance. The office is expanding and looking for hands-on, enthusiastic talent to continue to build on a best-in-class approach to academic technology management and commercialization.

Detailed Description

The Patent and Operations Coordinator will serve as a main coordinator at the nexus of intellectual property management, finance, operations and day-to-day office functionality. Responsibilities include receiving technology and patent related documents, docketing, and coordinating action with intellectual property strategists (internal and external), receiving legal invoices and liaising with patent and finance colleagues to ensure timely review, monitoring and reporting obligations related to intellectual property generated by federal and foundation funding, data-entry related to licensing and other enabling contracts, and ensuring all database information is correct. Will work with colleagues to generate and track intellectual property activities, contracting activities, and reports, as the office transitions to a paperless work environment. Will manage schedules, assist with event planning and office-wide meetings, and be responsible for monitoring and stocking inventory.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree required. Must have a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience and working knowledge of patent docketing procedures. Must have the ability to read and interpret general patent and business correspondence and documents in order to classify, triage, and coordinate as appropriate. Experience as a patent paralegal a plus. Comprehensive knowledge of efficient data entry, and enthusiasm for creating processes and controls to ensure data and reports are meaningful for reporting to leadership within the organization necessary. Must have an impeccable attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and superior interpersonal skills that will translate to easily working with people up and down any organization's hierarchy. Must have strong computer and database skills. Comfortability with a growing office that requires a nimbleness to adapt to new and unknown situations necessary.
