Laboratory / Department Comparative Bioscience Center
The Comparative Bioscience Center provides a comprehensive program of animal care in support of the University's in vivo research. The goal of our staff is to provide investigators with the highest level of research support at the lowest cost while ensuring the welfare of the animals used in the research. The center is fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).
The Porter will be responsible for sweeping, dusting, cleaning and mopping all areas including corridors, break room, locker room, lounge area, offices, labs, procedure rooms, receiving dock, feed room, elevators and stairs. Will vacuum carpeting, clean walls, doors, eyewash stations, light fixtures, ceilings, and vents using ladders and/or scaffolding. Will clean and disinfect washrooms and locker room showers. The Porter will collect trash and empty, clean, line waste containers and bring trash to a main collection area. Will also be responsible for cleaning equipment, restocking supplies, cleaning the custodial area, and determining supplies needed for the week and making out appropriate requests.
High School diploma or equivalent required. Must be courteous and have good communication skills. Must be willing to work overtime on occasion and report to work for emergency situations. Must be able to read and follow manufacturers' instructions and MSDS sheets in English regarding cleaning products.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds, engage in a full range of motion, stand for extended periods, bend, push, pull, and reach above the shoulders. Must be able to use force in cleaning materials and surfaces as needed.
