Job: IRC25208

Job Title Research Assistant, Molecular Genetics and Immunology

Laboratory / Department Molecular Genetics and Immunology

Department Description

The Laboratory of Molecular Genetics and Immunology is focused on dissecting the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing the generation of antibody specificity and the translation of that specificity into cellular responses. Our work seeks to identify the genetic components that initiate B cell activation upon antigenic challenge, the controls that maintain tolerance both centrally and in the periphery, and the mechanisms that govern the coupling of antibody specificity to effector cell response.

Detailed Description

The Research Assistant will participate in on-going projects such as developing and characterizing transgenic mouse lines to study antibody function in infectious diseases and cancer. Will perform bench work such as protein expression/purification, flow cytometry, ELISA, cloning, and maintaining mammalian cell lines. Responsibilities include weekly tail clipping, weaning, preparing DNA samples for PCR genotyping, maintaining a large mouse colony, and other related animal husbandry. Will assist with general laboratory organization and support duties.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biology preferred. Must have a minimum of one year of previous mouse handling experience. Hands-on experience in a research laboratory preferred. Must be well organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task. Candidate must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
