Department Description

Our work focuses on several different aspects of molecular virology, biochemical and structural virology, viral pathogenesis and vaccine development. The laboratory studies animal RNA viruses, including hepatitis C virus (HCV), yellow fever virus (prototype flavivirus), bovine viral diarrhea virus (a pestivirus) and Sindbis virus (a togavirus).

Detailed Description

The Research Assistant will assist with experiments designed to develop possible live-attenuated vaccine candidates for Powassan virus and test them in a murine model. In addition to general laboratory tasks such as ordering and making of solutions, responsibilities include performing cloning steps to generate the plasmids encoding the vaccine candidates, make RNA in vitro, transfect that RNA into mammalian cell culture and quantify the viral genome RNA and virions.
