Job Title Research Assistant

Laboratory / Department Host-Pathogen Biology

Department Description

Our lab has developed novel CRISPR-based tools for functional genomics in the globally important pathogen, Mycobacterium tuberculosis . At Rockefeller, you will join a dynamic research team to investigate the mechanisms that enable this bacterium to cause disease and evade current antibiotics, with the long-term goal of developing new strategies to improve control of this pandemic.

Detailed Description

The Research Assistant will conduct experiments central to the laboratory's research on tuberculosis. Projects will utilize genome-scale forward genetics, molecular genetics, and biochemistry to elucidate the mechanisms Mycobacterium tuberculosis uses to evade killing by the host and antibiotics. Responsibilities include molecular cloning, tissue culture, gene expression analysis, next generation sequencing, biochemistry, and work with cellular and animal models. The Research Assistant will serve as a primary point of contact between the laboratory and vendors, negotiate with vendors for the purchase, maintenance, and calibration of equipment, check supply levels and place orders, and prepare, store and distribute new supplies.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, or biochemistry preferred.
