Description
Job Title Research Assistant
Laboratory / Department Laboratory of Molecular Neuro-Oncology
Department Description
Our Laboratory uses high throughput sequencing and other techniques to investigate the proteins that regulate RNA and thereby affect gene expression. Our interest in this system originated from a study of naturally occurring tumor immunity associated with a group of rare brain disorders, and has since expanded to neuron-specific RNA-binding proteins in the mammalian brain, and more generally to functional genomics and human disease.
Detailed Description
The Research Assistant will be responsible for utilizing basic molecular biology and biochemical techniques (with an emphasis on working with RNA and protein), including immunoprecipitation, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and western blotting. Will have the opportunity to learn cutting edge neuroscience techniques including optogenetics, stereotaxic injections, and electrophysiology.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree required; educational emphasis in molecular biology, biochemistry, or life sciences preferred. Must have knowledge of basic laboratory practice. Knowledge of RNA biology and biochemistry, including evaluation of NGS technologies and data analytics, preferred. Ability to give full attention to experiments and keep accurate and accessible records is a must.
