Job Title Research Assistant
Laboratory / Department Virology and Infectious Disease
Our work focuses on several different aspects of molecular virology, biochemical and structural virology, viral pathogenesis and vaccine development. The laboratory studies animal RNA viruses, including hepatitis C virus (HCV), yellow fever virus (prototype flavivirus), bovine viral diarrhea virus (a pestivirus) and Sindbis virus (a togavirus).
The Research Assistant will contribute to the Virology Core's projects aimed at developing novel vaccine strategies for Zika virus. Responsibilities will include producing and characterizing virus particles and reporter virus stocks, and preparing inactivated virus stocks. Will also conduct neutralization and enhancement assays for flaviviruses, including Zika and dengue viruses.
Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in biological sciences or virology preferred. Must have molecular biology skills (plasmid preparation, cloning, qPCR, and experience working with RNA), as well as prior experience with mammalian cell culture and transfection. Previous experience performing quantitative virological assays and working with mice is preferred. General laboratory skills, including buffer and reagent preparation and ordering supplies, required. Must have strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
