Job Title Research Assistant

Laboratory / Department Genetically Encoded Small Molecules

Department Description

Natural products- or more generally, genetically encoded small molecules- play a wide variety of roles in biology and have proved useful in the development of small molecule therapeutic agents. Dr. Brady's research centers on the discovery, biosynthesis and characterization of new, genetically encoded small molecules from microbial sources, with a special focus on those produced by uncultured soil bacteria and pathogenic bacteria. He is also interested in developing molecular tools that can be used to observe small molecules in vivo.

Detailed Description

Working closely with a postdoctoral researcher, the Research Assistant will contribute to an antibiotic discovery project. Responsibilities include peptide synthesis, purification, characterization, and bioassays.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in science required; advanced degree preferred. Educational emphasis in Chemistry and prior research experience in the field strongly preferred. Experience with automated and manual peptide synthesis or extensive general background in synthetic chemistry necessary. Desire and ability to work in a team environment is important. Must also demonstrate a strong track record of research productivity, scientific rigor, excellent communication skills, and an ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
