Rockefeller University Research Assistant in New York, New York

Job: IRC22889

Job Title Research Assistant

Laboratory / Department Laboratory of Genome Maintenance

Department Description

Throughout its lifetime, a cell's DNA is under constant metabolic and environmental assault leading to damage. Left unchecked, the resulting genome instability initiates cancer and other age-related disorders. Using Fanconi anemia as a backdrop for understanding aging and cancer, our laboratory's research aims to elucidate pathways that prevent cancer development, with a specific focus on those that repair DNA and those that induce permanent growth arrest in response to cellular stress.

Detailed Description

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Laboratory and a postdoctoral fellow, the Research Assistant will perform experiments using molecular biology techniques to study the fundamentals of DNA replication and repair, with applications to a large range of diseases, such as bone marrow failure and neurodegeneration. Will work closely in a team effort to achieve hypothesis-driven milestones, maintain precise laboratory records, write reports and present data in a group setting. Will also gain experience with stem cells, a variety of imaging modalities, and cutting edge CRIPSR techniques and more.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in science required; educational emphasis in molecular biology preferred. Must have a minimum of 1 year of wet laboratory bench experience. Experience with general cell/tissue culture, including transfections and lentiviral packaging/transduction required; experience with stem cells a plus. Experience with general molecular biology techniques (cloning, PCR, DNA/RNA/protein work) preferred. Must be goal-oriented, well-organized, and have strong attention to detail.
