Rockefeller University Research Assistant in New York, New York
Job Title Research Assistant
Laboratory / Department Lymphocyte Dynamics
Our Laboratory studies germinal centers, which are structures within lymphoid organs where antibodies mutate and improve their targeting capabilities in a process called affinity maturation. This allows the immune system to produce antibodies that are precisely targeted at invaders, resulting in faster and more robust responses upon subsequent exposures.
The Research Assistant will work on multiple projects involving the recruitment and maturation of antibody-producing B cells in germinal centers. At the core of the work is the isolation of individual B cells from mouse germinal centers, followed by amplification of immunoglobulin genes from single cells and recombinant production of these antibodies in cell cultures. The ultimate goal of these studies is to understand better how antibodies are generated during infection and upon vaccination. Will be responsible for basic molecular biology techniques, including PCR, molecular cloning in E. coli using restriction enzymes or other methods, and icell culture methods for recombinant protein.
Bachelor's degree in science required. Substantial experience with basic molecular biology techniques, including standard PCR technique and troubleshooting and standard molecular cloning in E. coli using restriction enzymes or other methods necessary. Experience with icell culture methods for recombinant protein expression is a plus, but training will be provided in the laboratory if necessary
