Department Description

Plant Operations offers comprehensive services at The Rockefeller University including a full range of building trades services which are responsible for routine maintenance and minor/major space alterations, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, grounds maintenance, locksmith, custodial, moving and setup services.

Detailed Description

Under the supervision of the Chief Engineer or his representative, will be responsible for the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of the power house during an assigned shift. Will perform daily assignments as required by maintenance and/or job orders of all power house equipment, assign, direct, and check the work of other power house personnel, keep all necessary records and logs during the shift, maintain the power house area in a safe, clean, and workable condition at all times, and evaluate the watch performance for productivity.

Job Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent and Stationary Engineer, Refrigeration Systems Operator, and C.F.C. Universal Certificate licenses required. Two to five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of gas and oil-fired high pressure boilers, steam distribution, and refrigeration systems necessary. Experience in a supervisory capacity strongly preferred. Must be proficient with all tools, methods, and materials pertaining to electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic controls and instrumentation for steam generators (boilers), chillers, and associated systems. Must know how to read blueprints, schematics, and control diagrams, have the ability to work safely, independently, and reliably from verbal and written instructions, be available for shift work including weekends and holidays, and possess a working knowledge of HVAC systems electric and pneumatic controls, as well as electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.

Additional Details

Must have manual dexterity, auditory and visual acuity, and the ability to handle unpredictable situations and emergencies as necessary. Must be willing to work in confined spaces with high temperatures as necessary. Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, sit, reach, push, and pull necessary. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Environment includes noise and encapsulated asbestos on some steam pipes.
